What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing art rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has been used for thousands of years to awaken the body’s natural healing processes and restore balance. At the heart of this system is the concept of qi (pronounced “chee”) — a vital life force or energy that circulates through the body along pathways known as meridians.
When qi flows freely and harmoniously, the body tends toward health and vitality. When qi becomes blocked, deficient, or excessive, imbalances arise — manifesting as pain, illness, emotional distress, or physical dysfunction. Acupuncture works by inserting fine, sterile needles into acupuncture points along meridians to correct these disturbances, allowing qi to return to a balanced flow.

What is qi?
Meridians are networks of channels or pathways in which qi flows. Each meridian corresponds to specific organs or groups of organs, governing distinct bodily functions.
Yin and Yang: These are complementary forces in TCM. Good health depends on a dynamic balance between yin and yang; disruptions in qi are seen as disruptions in this balance.
Acupuncture Points: These are particular locations on the meridians where qi is closer to the skin’s surface and more accessible to stimulation. By inserting the needles in these points, the practitioner aims to restore proper flow of qi and balance between yin and yang.
